How to set up scan to Box or Egnyte from your office copier

Box and Egnyte serve the enterprise content management segment for offices that need stronger collaboration features, regulatory compliance, or external-partner sharing than general-purpose cloud storage provides. Both connect to modern MFPs through OAuth-based scan-to-cloud configuration.

Platform · Box

Box Business / Box Enterprise

Cloud-native enterprise content platform with strong external-collaboration features. Native MFP connectors available on Konica Minolta bizhub, Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE DX, Ricoh IM C-series, Xerox AltaLink, and Sharp BP-series devices.

Box integrates with the office identity stack through SAML SSO, supporting per-user authentication at the MFP for personal-folder destinations or shared service-account authentication for departmental folders.

Best fit · enterprise external collaboration, regulated industries
Platform · Egnyte

Egnyte Connect

Hybrid cloud + on-premises content platform with strong industries-with-large-files presence — architecture, engineering, media production. Native MFP support narrower than Box; commonly deployed through MFP scan-to-folder pointing at the Egnyte Desktop sync folder.

Egnyte's hybrid architecture suits offices needing both cloud accessibility and on-premises performance for large file workflows. The MFP integration typically leverages the sync-folder pattern rather than direct OAuth.

Best fit · AEC, media, large-file workflows

Box and Egnyte serve a distinct segment of the office cloud storage market — offices that need enterprise-grade collaboration, regulatory-compliance features, or large-file workflow performance beyond what Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox deliver. The scan-to-platform configuration on both follows the same OAuth-based pattern as the consumer cloud connectors, with platform-specific authentication flows. This guide covers both Box and Egnyte configuration on modern office MFPs.

For offices already operating on Box or Egnyte as their primary document repository, the native MFP connector eliminates the manual step of saving scanned documents into the cloud platform. The configuration takes 20 to 30 minutes per device and produces a scan destination accessible from the MFP home panel by any authorised user.

§01

Box configuration · five steps

1

Register an OAuth application in Box developer console

Box administrator creates a new custom application with OAuth 2.0 authentication and Content API scope. Note the client ID and client secret for MFP configuration.

2

Open the MFP web admin console

Connect to the device through its IP address, log in with admin credentials, and navigate to Cloud Services → Box.

3

Configure Box credentials and authenticate

Enter the client ID and secret, then complete the OAuth device flow by visiting Box's authentication URL on a desktop browser and entering the device code.

4

Select destination folder

Browse the authenticated Box account and select the target folder. Configure per-user or shared destination based on the office's authentication model.

5

Test and add to device address book

Scan a test document, confirm it appears in the Box folder, and add the destination to the device's scan-to address book for end-user access.

Egnyte path · sync-folder pattern

For Egnyte, the typical configuration deploys the Egnyte Desktop sync client on an office server, configures a synced folder mapping to the desired Egnyte storage location, and points the MFP at that folder via standard SMB scan-to-folder. Scans land in the server folder; Egnyte Desktop syncs the folder to the cloud within seconds; the document appears in the cloud Egnyte instance for users to access from anywhere. The pattern adds an office-server dependency but works on any MFP supporting standard scan-to-folder.

For offices with substantial Egnyte usage and budget for native integration, Egnyte's MFP partner program produces direct OAuth connectors on selected Konica Minolta and Canon devices. The native path eliminates the sync-folder intermediary and matches the user experience of Box, Google Drive, and OneDrive connectors. Confirm with both the MFP vendor and Egnyte at procurement stage whether the specific device model carries a certified native connector.
