The machine was first introduced around 2011, and has since iterated to Generation II and Generation III. Generation III was launched in 2020, and as of 2024, it remains a currently available model.

Consumables

Black toner model C-EXV51, rated yield 69,000 pages (5% coverage), unit price approximately £145, equivalent to 0.2 pence per page.

Color toners (cyan, magenta, yellow) each 60,000 pages, unit price approximately £316 to £325, about 0.5 pence per page.

Full set replacement cost for all four color toners approximately £1,100. Based on monthly print volume of 30,000 pages with 30% color ratio, average monthly consumable cost is approximately £200.

Toner Type Model Page Yield Unit Price Cost/Page
Black C-EXV51 69,000 pages ~£145 0.2p
Cyan C-EXV51 60,000 pages ~£316-325 0.5p
Magenta C-EXV51 60,000 pages ~£316-325 0.5p
Yellow C-EXV51 60,000 pages ~£316-325 0.5p

2024: Toner prices have increased 10%-15% compared to 2022. Black has increased less, while color increases are larger. Signing long-term contracts can lock in prices.

Photoconductor drums, fuser units, and other long-life components are charged separately. Fuser unit life approximately 600,000 pages, replacement cost approximately £400.

Known Issues

Driver Issue

Mac Driver Compatibility

macOS Big Sur and later versions have driver issues. Some users report that print jobs automatically add a cover page that cannot be disabled through normal settings. Canon does not provide direct technical support for the imageRUNNER series; users need to contact authorized dealers. Canon Community forum still had related help posts in September 2024.

Scan Quality

Scanning Quality

Generation III model scanners have controversies regarding light tone processing. A 2023 discussion post on Copytechnet technical forum pointed out that pencil-written content appears as jagged broken lines after scanning, particularly noticeable with pencil annotations in color documents.

Adjust the "Text/Photo" option in scan settings to "Text" mode; change the "Halftones" parameter in PostScript driver from "Printer Default" to "Resolution". Default settings have issues, but Canon has not publicly explained the reason.

Network

LDAPS Configuration

Authentication failures may occur when integrating with enterprise directory services. Canon Community forum had related reports in August 2023, marked as unresolved status.

Competitor Comparison

Comparable competitors include Ricoh IM C6000, Konica Minolta bizhub C450i, and Xerox AltaLink C8055.

Ricoh
IM C6000

60 pages/minute, similar price range. Known for stability, slightly lower consumable costs.

Conservative interface design, touchscreen experience not as good as Canon.

Ricoh was founded in 1950, with deep accumulation in commercial printing field.

Konica Minolta
bizhub C450i

45 pages/minute, positioned slightly lower tier. Comprehensive software ecosystem, high integration of bizhub ARCHITECTURE platform.

Imaging unit costs high, approximately $500 per unit, four units per machine.

2021 toner factory fire caused supply chain disruption for several months, exposing supply risks.

Xerox
AltaLink C8055

55 pages/minute. Xerox has not released new production equipment since 2019, R&D investment has clearly contracted.

Technical staff turnover, spare parts supply tightening. Annual reports show total revenue declined over $2 billion from 2019 to 2022.

Canon Advantages

Canon's 2021 R&D budget was $2.6 billion, with product iteration speed faster than Xerox and Konica Minolta. Holds the largest global installed base of production equipment. Extensive after-sales network, low difficulty in obtaining parts.

2023: Buyer's Lab Inc. (BLI) provides third-party reviews and model comparison tools, which can be referenced before signing contracts.

Procurement Notes

Contract Terms

All-inclusive maintenance contracts typically set monthly print volume limits, with overage charged per sheet. Black-and-white unit price approximately ¥0.03/page, color approximately ¥0.3/page. Actual unit prices vary significantly by region and dealer, requiring item-by-item comparison.

Optional Accessories

Base configuration does not include finisher. Internal finisher supports 50-sheet stapling, booklet finisher can produce saddle-stitch booklets. Post-purchase installation costs more than initial installation, recommend configuring based on needs from the start.

Security Configuration

Multiple network ports open by default, requiring manual closure of unnecessary services. Supports IPsec, SSL/TLS, port filtering. Hard drive encryption is standard, supports data overwrite clearing. McAfee Embedded Control (whitelist mechanism) requires separate activation.

Training

Machine has many functional modules, including My ADVANCE personalized interface, uniFLOW output management, cloud connectivity, etc. Dealer training depth varies; recommend requesting written operation manuals and scheduling dedicated training time.

Used Market

C5560i used machine price approximately $4,000 to $5,000, new machine quote approximately $20,000. Refurbished machine sources include lease return recoveries, corporate asset disposals, etc. Before purchase, confirm print count, remaining drum life, whether maintenance contract is included.

After Generation III launch, Generation II prices dropped significantly. Functional differences mainly reflected in processor performance and some security features, with limited difference in daily print volume scenarios.

2025: Some dealers offer Certified Pre-Owned refurbished machines with 90-day to 1-year warranty, which can reduce procurement risk.

Evaluation

Advantages

Output speed meets standards, high color reproduction accuracy, smooth touchscreen interaction, large brand installed base, abundant after-sales resources.

Disadvantages

Mac compatibility issues remain unresolved long-term, scan default settings have defects, dealer service levels vary, optional accessory prices are high.

Recommendation

For scenarios with monthly print volume over 20,000 pages, color ratio over 20%, and planned usage period of 5+ years, the C5560 offers good value for money. For volumes under 10,000 pages or primarily black-and-white scenarios, lower-tier models in the same series or Ricoh entry-level models are more suitable.
